A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa. There are over three hundred species and tens of thousands of cultivars. This group of plants can be shrubs, climbing, or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. The flowers vary in size and shape and have an abundance of colour varieties, from white to yellows and reds.
Most species are native to Asia, with some also native to Europe, North America and northwestern Africa.
Commonly associated with love and romance, the rose has a long and illustrious history. Since Roman times, rose petals have been used as confetti for celebrations and to scent perfumes. In the 17th century, they were so sought-after that royalty used them as legal tender!
Dried rose petals are highly prized for their floral fragrance and decorative qualities, which make them a popular choice for handmade cosmetics, skincare products and even teas.
Shelf-life: This varies depending on how they are stored. As long as you store correctly, they can last anywhere between one and three years.
Storage: Similar to other dried products, you will want to store these in a dry, dark place, ideally out of direct sunlight. This can keep humidity away from them, allowing them to last longer.

Culinary Herbs & Spices
Edible rose petals are ideal garnishes for celebration cakes and cocktails. They can also be incorporated into savoury dishes, either whole or ground into a Middle Eastern spice mix. The dried petals can be used on their own or mixed with other ingredients. For example, the petals can be individually floated on drinks or pressed into cake or chocolate creations. Along with cupcakes, drinks and desserts, our edible dried rose petals can also be used to flavour jams and syrups. What do they taste like? With a delicate floral and musky aroma, dried edible rose petals can enhance both sweet and savoury dishes.

Both Ayurveda and Chinese medicine use dried edible rose petals in tea and have been doing so for hundreds of years. Thanks to their high antioxidant and vitamin C content, these petals are also thought to enhance the appearance of skin and hair.
