This herbaceous perennial is most at home in grassland, meadows, shrub land, alpine mountain environments and dry pine forests. Their attractive yellow or orange flowers are daisy-like in appearance and typically 2–3 inches wide, with 10-15 ray florets surrounding a central disc of smaller flowers that are bright yellow. When rubbed, the flower leaves have a distinct pine-sage aroma. The flowering season falls between May and August.

Due to the flowers containing compounds like sesquiterpene lactones, flavonoids, and essential oils, it’s believed the plant has potential herbal health benefits.
